You have almost certainly seen a number of different TEFL and TESOL courses advertised and also many different abbreviations and acronyms used to describe them.
Understandably it can be a little confusing and many people are not sure which courses and certificates are legitimate and which ones are the best to undertake.
While many weekend and short taster courses are effective in giving you the basics, from an emplyers point of view there are only a few courses which are recognised globally and which are required by Government agencies such as the British Council in order for you to secure a job in an accredited school.
The courses which are recognised by emplyers globally tend to be courses which are externally examined or moderated and also courses which have a teaching practice component.
Trinity College London TESOL courses and Cambridge ESOL teaching courses both meet these requirements and many employers see these 2 bodies as the industry standards.
Recently the Scottish Qualifications Authority (SQA) has begun to offer TESOL in their suite of Professional Development awards and these qualifications will certainly be recognised now by both private and public education establishments.
If you have any doubts as to which course to choose it is advisable to contact prospective employers ans seek guidance from them.
If you have any questions about our Trinity and SQA TESOL courses we would be very happy to give you as much advise as we can. Please contact us.
